I don't know who she's singing with here,
but sounds a bit like Tom Waits,
and know it isn't.

This is a great reminder! Got the first two "Le mystere des voix bulgare" (I admit I had to look up the correct spelling:) on import back in the 80s. It resulted in various purchases of other Bulgarian folk music as well (which hit the market due to the success of the Bulgarian comps). The beauty of their singing is maddening. There was also a Hungarian folk act Muszikas featuring Marta Sebestyen that was fantastic. It's almost all coming back now...
It was a lovely time.
The original 1955 release is by far the best and still as fresh today, as when I heard it in the 70s.....
Way way before me! :) I went with the crowd in the good old 80s, when I discovered music truth be told. Had never heard anything like this when I first listened to it. It was disturbing in a way I couldn't resist. Utterly beautiful!
