we (were) havin' a heatwave

Boston Sunset

The oppressive heatwave on the U.S. eastern seaboard finally passed. But not without three swealtering days. Prompting my iPod to dial up a couple of heatwave tunes. Starting it off with James White and the Blacks' (formerly James Chance & the Contortions) great post-punk / no-wave cover of "(Tropical) Heatwave."

  • (Tropical) Heatwave -- James White and the Blacks (1979)

  • And here's a mash-up by Boston's dj BC featuring "Heatwave" by Martha and the Vandellas (vs. Mos Def vs. Led Zeppelin).

  • Hotbreaker -- dj BC (Martha & the Vandellas vs. Mos Def vs. Led Zeppelin) (2005)

  • stay cool

James is wickedly cool. I'm just like most fans: I think his first records are his finest. And I don't think the reissues will be available for long. So buy or die...
