Frédérique Spigt

The Dutch contenders at the Eurovision Song Contest haven’t been successful for more than thirty years. The last few years we didn’t even make it to the finals and with those crappy artists we really don’t deserve it either. Personally I can’t even remember an artist that I liked being a participant for the Netherlands, but in 1998 Frédérique Spigt decided to compete in the National Finals with the song Mijn Hart Kan Dat Niet Aan (My Heart Can’t Take This).

Although we probably wouldn’t have won the Eurovision Song Contest with Frédérique either and probably wouldn’t even have achieved a higher ranking than our actual participant (Edsilia Rombley ended up at the 4th place), it would have been nice to hear a more melodramatic song for once.

A great song to sing-along on the top of your lungs on lonely road trips, or late at night on the couch when your girlfriend just broke up with you:
